The Coconut Oil craze is alive and well; and I want a part in it.
There's a reason everyone is going crazy over Coconut Oil. It's a wonderful oil that has many uses ranging from health to beauty. The oils from coconuts contain healing properties that are just as effective as some over-the-counter products. The saturated fats in the oil are great for our health - helping to burn fat, leave our skin soft and supple, and repair damaged hair. The acids and enzymes in the oils are anti-microbial and are effective in ridding infections (we'll get into that in a minute). Over all coconut oil has healing properties to alleviate a diverse range of ailments.
Here are some uses for Coconut Oil and why it works.
Makeup Remover
Coconut oil makes a great makeup remover because it binds to the oils in the makeup making it easy to wash off. Please rinse coconut oil off, it can be comedogenic if left on the skin.
Yeast Infections
The powerful anti-microbial properties of coconut oil helps fight off yeast. You can use coconut oil internally (about a teaspoon at night before bed) or you can use it as a feminine wash.
Hair Masque
Coconut oil will repair dry, damaged hair. Take a spoonful and warm it in your hands and run through your hair. Tie your hair up and cover with a shower cap for 20 minutes and rinse (you may have to shampoo a few times to get all the oil out). This will leave your hair soft and silky.
Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is a technique for pulling toxins out of your system through your gums and tongue. You won't feel the effects of oil pulling right away, but if you stick with it you will be amazed. To do this, you will take a small amount of coconut oil and gently swish it around your mouth for 10 - 15 minutes in the morning. I find it is easiest to do this in the shower. Spit the oil into the trash, as it will harden and clog your drains.
Dry Skin
Dry skin effects a lot of people, and the products on the market for dry skin are full of petrochemicals. Coconut oil will not only relieve dry skin but will heal it too. It is a great option for eczema and it's safe for pets also. My dog suffers from dry spots on his stomach and I massage a little on the spots and him and his skin loves it.
SPF
Coconut oil is a natural SPF 4 - so lather it on for light sun protection before heading out to the pool. Please don't use on the face, it can be comedogenic.
Cooking
A great alternative to butter, coconut oil can be used for sauteing veggies and meat. And you'll get the added benefits coconut oil offers - good fats, antioxidants, and more.
